After a conversation with Jerry Derry last week regarding the completion of the games missed by Oakland’s first board, it has become apparent that it would be a hardship for Oakland to play the remaining games. Jerry agreed to forfeit the remaining two games. I suggested we hold off as long as possible, but it has become apparent that because of the length of games played at Board 1, these cannot be made up without significant hardship. Therefore, unless there is objection, I have decided to forfeit the two remaining Board 1 matches in favor of Willamette and Springfield, and award the teams and the players the points for those games.

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING

The annual pre-season coaches’ league meeting for the Midwestern League will take place on Wednesday, October 26 at Papa’s Pizza on Coburg Road in Eugene.  There will be some “meet and greet” time at 4 PM followed by the business meeting at 4:30.  The League will supply the pizza!  All teams should send a coach or other adult representative to the meeting.  This year, we are happy to announce that new teams from Junction City, Creswell, Churchill, and Willamette are joining us.  If other high schools in the Eugene area wish to be involved in the Midwestern Chess League, their coach or advisor should call Mike Wolfe at Cottage Grove High School, 942-3391, or just show up at the meeting.
